Welcome to Class 4. There are 34 of us, not counting the adults!
A special welcome to Emily, who has joined our school this
term and to Miss Mogg, who is also new to St. Joseph's. We
hope they will soon settle in and be happy in our class.
Our teacher is Miss Gibson.
Mrs. Pearson, Miss Mogg and Mrs. Hannigan help in our class
in lots of ways. Doctor Johnson encourages us to speak French
as he did last year. We will have a PE lesson once a week
with Mr. Doyle once swimming is over. This will be a help
in getting to know him ready for our trip to Charterhouse
later in the year. Mr. Barnett will be teaching us music and
taking a singing and a guitar group.
We are busy finding out
about each other in our new class through our first RE theme
'Beginnings' and our SEAL topic called 'New Beginnings'. This
also helps us think about how we can all be happy in school,
do our best work, enjoy what we are doing and know how to
deal with things when they go wrong or are difficult.
The children should be
bringing home a book from the class library as their reading
book. Please encourage them to read each night and share ideas
about the texts with you. They made need a reminder to change
their book on a regular basis! It would be helpful if you
could provide them with a named book bag to protect and transport
the book.
Topics this half term
include a study of Henry VIII, circuits and conductors and
designing and making a simple torch. The children may be asked
to do research at times and to bring in to school relevant
material connected with topics. Literacy and Numeracy targets
will soon be sent home, as will details of other homework,
such as handwriting, tables and spellings.
PE is on Wednesday and
Thursdays, with Swimming on Thursdays for the next few weeks.
Those who wear earrings should leave them at home on those
days or be responsible for removing them before these lessons.
Long hair should be tied back. Tracksuits and trainers may
be worn when we are outside for PE in the cold weather. Please
make sure that all clothing and equipment is named so it may
be returned if mislaid.
Do come and see me
or Mrs. Pearson before 8.50am if there are any concerns you
wish to talk over or any information you wish to share. Or
contact me via the office if you wish to make a longer appointment.
Also please keep me informed of anything which you feel may
have a bearing on your child's behaviour or learning. Sometimes
a quick word with a school assistant is sufficient as they
will pass on any details to me. Our first Parent's Evenings
will be held at the beginning of October and will be an opportunity
to talk through targets and parental support.
I hope you find this
information helpful. Do let me know if you feel it would be
useful to include anything else.
Miss Gibson.
