Hello and welcome to Dragonflies class! We hope your child
will enjoy his or her time in our class and learn lots of
new things. We are really keen to get to know you and your
child and we find it really helpful if we can keep in regular
contact about your child's successes, needs, worries and any
special things that are happening in their lives at home and
at school.
I am Mrs Hunt and I am
the class teacher. I am very lucky to have Mrs Donley and
Mrs Tully to help me this year. Mrs Tully is due to have a
baby in October and she will be replaced during her maternity
leave by Mrs Wilson. We also have lots of volunteer helpers
in our class this year. Your child will have a key person
as they did last year and each week, the grown-ups will spend
some special time with our group of key children.
We will be spending the
first few weeks getting to know the rules and routines of
the class. Our RE topic of 'Beginnings' will help us think
about the new start we are making in a new class. Our learning
will be based around the theme of food and we have lots of
interesting things planned for the children to do. We are
starting by working on 'The Enormous Turnip' story so if you
have a copy of the story at home please bring it in! We will
be doing some cooking, using our senses to examine different
foods, painting and drawing fruits and lots of play-based
activities centred upon the theme of food.
Our maths work will involve
counting, reading and writing numbers and doing some addition
and subtraction. If you would like to help at home and your
child is keen, practise writing the numbers to ten and beyond
if your child is ready.
It would help us very
much if you could bring a pair of named wellies into school
for welly walks and to make sure that your child has a waterproof
coat in school if it looks like rain (most days, probably!).
Children also need a book bag in school every day. PE will
be on a Tuesday and Friday and swimming on a Thursday.
I am nearly always around
before and after school, so please do come and see me if you
have any worries about your child or anything else you would
like to discuss with me.
Looking forward to a
happy and successful year
Catherine Hunt
